How High [HD]

LAUGH OUT LOUD FUNNY!!!!
The snobs and other uptight people will hate this one....but if you have a sense of humor, you will be rolling on the floor. Very funny and talented supporting cast for Method Man and Redman. Forget about the plot (think Marx Bros.)and just enjoy some of the year's hippest and funniest gags.

I wish I could give Higher stars
I saw in the movies with my best friend and we thought we were gonna die laughing. This movie is hella funny, Red and Meth are awesome. all of those people who say this movie is bad are probably old geezers who are mad that they are not young enough to have like us teenagers and what not.
The plot of two stoners getting into harvard is quite ingenious in this sensitive comedy. Watch this movie with the parents due to the low ratio of swear words, and there is barely any smoking or drug abuse-THATS UNHEARD OF IN THIS MOVIE!!! Hey you might even learn something because they are going to Harvard and learning too!
Highly recommend to buy this movie about two low class but well brought up boys finally achieving their goal of going to an ivy league school, you might cry you will feel such joy for these two excellent role models.

HOW HIGH
OMG ONE OF THE BEST FILMS EVER.. ESP WATCHING WITH FRIENDS... REDMAN AND METH ARE DEF AT THE TOP OF THEIR GAME ON THIS FILM... ESP WHEN THERE IN CLASS IN THE BEGINING OF THE FILM..

Dreams of a Life

Unsettling And Unpleasant: An Unbelievable True Story About Disconnectedness And Isolation
There is something so profoundly disturbing about Carol Morley's new documentary "Dreams of a Life" that I find it somewhat difficult to articulate my thoughts. Morley's film chronicles the strange case of Joyce Vincent. Vincent, a 38 year old London women, had a normal career, a typical family, and a number of interpersonal relationships that you might expect from someone of her age. Why, then, did no one notice when she died? Vincent's body lay undiscovered for three years in her flat within the heart of London. It's an incredible true story, one that you might struggle to believe is even possible. From the subject matter alone, it's almost impossible not to recommend "Dreams of a Life" as a cautionary tale of disconnectedness and isolation. But I still am so unsettled by the incident, the film itself becomes a somewhat unpleasant (yet unforgettable) homage.

The filmmakers sought out those that knew Vincent in an unorthodox advertising campaign. They found and...

A Beautiful Ghost
Now that I have Netflix, I am indulging myself in my passion for documentaries, something I usually have done for many years at the Indie movie houses. I have wafted and trudged through many as of late, which, till now, ranged from mind numbingly boring to pleasantly entertaining to very good. I just watched "Dreams Of A Life", and I'm still trying to breathe. Brilliant, tragic, touching, haunting, disturbing, are the first words that come to mind when trying to sum up this film. Since there are several excellent reviews with which I agree already posted here, as well as an accurate description of the subject matter of this film, I will not attempt to describe what it is about. I will only say that, as a person who had a very troubled, unloved childhood and youth, who had spent years isolating myself from people, that this film left me in jaw dropping sadness, and a certain sense of relief. That is not to say that it is simply a "depressing" movie. It is , as someone else pointed out...

"POWERFULLY MOVING, HEART-WRENCHING, HAUNTING!"
This is one powerful movie you may need tissues for as it tugs on the heart through-and-through. A Compelling and fascinating true story Of the life and death of Joyce Vincent, who passed away in 2003 in London. Her body was discovered 3 years later, with Christmas presents, and TV still on. Joyce was as Memorable and popular as the famous icon Stevie Wonder. How could it be possible, or even humane to find her body 3 years later, and when her death was announced, not even so much as a photograph? This heartfelt story has you thinking in silence, long after you watched the movie. It does leave a thought-provoking aftermath, and how could it not? A life of someone so important, yet no friends or family came forward to investigate her missing. The aftermath we feel is a sad one on humanity, and it makes us think of our own future and what will come about. Haunting, Chilling, Entertaining from start to finish. Highly Recommended!

An Abominable Christmas

funny and charming
An Abominable Christmas has just the best mix of amusement and insight. I like the way it encourages children to be discerning about adult behavior. Both the unconventional and the rule-bound are subjects for curiosity and investigation. Answers come from thoughtful exploration. Interesting and fun for children and adults. Good conversation starter.

Best children's Christmas movie ever!
This is a wonderful, funny, heart-warming, Christmas movie. Our 5-year old grandson loved it, and all the adults enjoyed it too. It teaches compassion, and it has plenty of humor than can be appreciated by both adults and children.

Fun Kids Christmas Holiday Movie
This holiday special is great if you have young kids and want to watch something around Christmas that the whole family can enjoy. A great message, lots of fun and very cute animations :)

Next Stop Wonderland

Wonderful, wonderful wonderland
This movie is an unexpected gem. I have just finished watching it for the 6th time, and I am still in awe of its subtle humour and the empathy with which it depicts all its characters.

The only thing I don't like about this video is its misleading cover. Hope Davis perches coyly atop a subway train, slit skirt revealing plenty of thigh and low-cut top framing lotsa cleavage. A strappy sandal dangles from one foot. But in fact, one of the myriad beauties of this film is that Erin (deftly played by Davis) is not a frisky, flirtatious kind of gal, and never appears in any outfit more revealing than a nubby turtleck and jeans. Erin is a sensitive soul who has been in pain ever since the death of her beloved father, and she masks her true nature with a prickly veneer. She wants to fall in love but fights it every step of the way.

The cover of the video implies yet another dumb, cutesie comedy with another giggly, adorable heroine (you know... the "You've got Mail"...

Hope Davis: Queen of Wonderland
Do we really need another soppy romantic comedy about thirtysomethings in the big city? Watching NEXT STOP WONDERLAND, the answer is "Yes." As I prepared to be depressed beyond reason by two wonderful people ending up alone (and pleasantly disappointed), I ended up laughing unexpectedly at the humor cropping up in odd places. Alan Gelfant is charming and sympathetic in his hilarious aquarium-heist subplot. Philip Seymour Hoffman (as in every movie he's done) takes a character that could have been a bland stereotype and puts his own indelible stamp on it. H. Jon Benjamin (the slacker, layabout son Ben from the "Dr. Katz" show) is hilarious as one of Erin's loutish blind dates. Holland Taylor brings the frigid high-class sexiness of Judge Roberta Kittleson from "The Practice" and "Ally McBeal" to her role as Erin's mother. Roger Rees is hilarious and sleazy as the biology teacher. It's also refreshing that the movie takes place in...

outstanding in its field
This movie truly left its mark on me. It shows the tedium and courage it takes to sort through the frogs to get to the prince, and how important it is to be at peace with yourself in order to be able to be with someone else. Hope Davis and Alan Gelfant do such a wonderful job at showing how being alone does not necessarily mean being lonely. Roger Rees plays a small role but shines, as always. When you are feeling lonely and hopeless about love, this movie will renew your faith.

Beasts Of The Southern Wild

A Beautiful Elegy to a World That is Dying
I am a coonass. I am from Southwest Louisiana and am a part of the joie de vivre culture of South Louisiana. This world has embraced me and rolled up in its cocoon of love of place, of family, of celebration all my life. Beasts of the Southern Wild comes the closest of any movie I have ever seen to expressing the truth of the sheer beauty of life in the swamps. Through the devastation of hurricanes, the opression of the wealthy, and the well-meaning of outsiders, we survive. And yet our world is dying. We know it as surely as we can see the trees dying on the marshes as the salt water moves further inland, because our buffers are dissappearing. We know it when we drive the roads and watch the waves lap against our tires or roar against the sides of our cars. We know it when we fish and see the open water where once there was land.

This movie, better than any other, cherishes these truths and films them. I'm grateful that Zeitlan chose not to embrace Cajuns in this...

Everything you hope for in a film
A good film is a confluence of many variables. A good director orchestrates these variables into a finished form. Beasts of the Southern Wild is such a film and Behn Zeitlin is such a director. And the brilliance of Zeitlin is that he manages to take all manner of seemingly contradictory elements and make them,as a nameless boat captain says in the film, cohesive.

One such variable is story. Hushpuppy is a six-year-old girl who lives with her father on the wrong side of a levee in a fictitious Southeast Louisiana town called The Bathtub. The film follows her point of view, and the world of her active imagination and the real world around her often intertwine on screen. The film is your standard coming of age story, but it is this unique perspective of Hushpuppy and her understanding of the world around her that is the foundation of the film and its magic.

Another variable is music. The director worked closely with his friend and composer Dan Romer in creating the...

Like 'Whale Rider', a Powerful Performance from a Child in a Great Film
BOTSW is easily the best movie of 2012 so far (although I loved 'Moonrise Kingdom' too), and the stars should get ready for Oscar season. The pacing may be off-putting to some, but if you can handle artsy fare, you're sure to love it. The story tells the tale of eight year old Hushpuppy, who must save her father, friends, and herself from mysterious beasts in what may or may not be the end of the world. The lines between fantasy and reality are very blurry, which makes this movie a great discussion piece for a group. One thing I will note is that while everything about this movie is exceptional, the score is one of the best I've heard in a long time. I went to a screening with the film's director and two stars, and they spoke to how organic the entire film process was, and how elements in the script were rewritten for each of the leads so the dialogue would sound authentic to the deep south. Every detail is watched carefully, and this is truly a must-see.

The Palm Beach Story [HD]

The Palm Beach Story
Okay, this is a work of genius. Preston Sturges wrote and directed THE PALM BEACH STORY, one of the best screwball comedies ever, made (1942) when the they weren't making many madcap comedies anymore. At least not the type that appealed to adult sensibilities. Like most screwball comedies it's a story of two slightly mismatched lovers, here caught in the fourth year of their marriage. Joel McCrea plays Tom Jeffers, an inventor and builder who's having difficulties making a go of it. Claudette Colbert is his wife Geraldine, a beautiful woman who can't cook or sew and by now feels she's become a bit of a `milestone' to her husband. So it's off to Palm Beach, where she can obtain a divorce, marry a wealthy man and get the $90,000 her husband needs to build his skyline airport. You see, she still loves him, and he still loves her....

The raw materials of comedy are also those of melodrama and tragedy. A story of love imperiled by impending poverty can be taken down...

Spring for This One!
Ignore the carping here from other reviewers about DVD quality (just fine, if short on extras) or the merits of the film -- how ridiculous, when PALM BEACH STORY is one of the funniest, most adult comedies from Hollywood's Golden Age! Colbert has never been more charmingly pragmatic, and the underrated Joel McCrea simmers and stews with virile magnetism and ace comic timing. Throw in stellar supporting turns from Mary Astor and Rudy Vallee (whose rendition of "Goodnight, Sweetheart" sparks the film's finale), the usual Sturges suspects wrecking a train as the hilarious Ale and Quail Club, and the unforgettable Wienie King, my nominee for most endearing supporting performance in any classic movie, and this DVD is a real bargain. If you know the film, you'll be happy with this transfer. If not, sit back and relax -- visiting Paramount's blissfully loony Manhattan and Palm Beach, you're in the hands of masters.

One of Sturges's greatest comedies
This is an absolutely stunning comedy, with one comic shock and delight after another, and hilarious performances by a bevy of some of the best character actors in the history of Hollywood.

Highpoints include a trip on the railroad with the Ale and Quail Club; an introduction to The Weenie King, on of the funniest characters I know of in any film; Rudy Valee's unexpectedly delightful portrayal of a Rockefeller-like multi-millionaire; Mary Astor's excellent performance as Rudy Valee's sister; and a gentleman of unspecified ethnic origin known simply as "Toto."

The opening credits of the movie are among the most fascinating of the thirties or forties. While the credits are running, we see onscreen an entire prequel somehow involving two sets of identical twins (one set played by Joel McCrea and the other by Claudette Colbert).

Preston Sturges is not the best director the United States has ever produced, but he unquestionably enjoyed the finest five year period of any...

Venom

R rated horror? Count me in
Its kind of a sad state horror films are in right now. What angers me the most about the PG-13 horror films we've been seeing recently is that they were originally supposed to be R. For instance, all of the "unrated" movies coming to DVD (see Grudge, Ring 2, Dark Water, Darkness...the list can go on and on), they were cut down from an R rating to achieve that PG-13 group. Whenever I bring this up I get yelled at (mostly by those unable to see R rated movies) because they think PG-13 horror films are the end all of horror. What they are missing is that in the past most, if not all, horror films were rated R and it just feels like a dumbing down when you can't go anywhere to find an R rated horror film but lo and behold PG-13s abound.

I apologize for the digression but it does serve a purpose for this review. The reason I give Venom a 4 star rating as opposed to the 3 or 3.5 it probably deserves is based on the timing. I saw this movie this last weekend because my...

Mr. Jangles
This is yet another horror film that had me fooled thanks to the previews. When I saw the previews, it appeared that this was a truly disturbing film that was sure to creep you out and leave you unsettled. When I saw the film, however, it turned out to be another teen horror flick.

Granted, this movie was quite a bit more entertaining and frightening than some others I'd seen recently (Cry Wolf, Dark Water, etc.). The swamp setting did lend the movie an added sense of darkness and dread, further darkening the aura of a backwoods town in the middle of nowhere. Ray, as "Mr. Jangles", was a pretty menacing figure and the incorporation of voodoo into the story also helped to make it a bit more interesting and mysterious. So, the movie had a good setting, tone and villian - ultimately, not too bad.

I'd say it's worth a viewing.

Great Movie.....Not Sure Why Some Don't Like It
I have no clue why this film didn't do any better than it did. It really is a very good movie and contrary to popular belief, it actually does manage to generate some supsense. I mean, true, we don't have any big-name faces in the cast, but who needs those anyway? The cast works fine, and most of them are able to act fairly decent. The only part where this movie falls short, is the last 3-4 minutes or so, when the lead female character finally kills Ray Sawyer. That whole sequence just seemed out of place. The colors were over-saturated, and it was entirely too bright in contrast with the rest of the film. Obviously, this small screw-up is not enough to make the movie bad, which is why the film deserves 5 stars and not 3. This is definitely worth a look!

Monumental: In Search of America's National Treasure

Excellent! Far exceeded my expectations!!
I'll admit, when I first heard about this documentary I was a bit skeptical. While Kirk Cameron has always struck me as a very sincere person, he wasn't someone I was expecting to do a serious documentary. However, this documentary really exceeded my expectations! Cameron's sincerity and and passion brings a lot of energy to the this film.

"Monumental" was filled with interesting content, much of which I had never heard before. This was quite surprising considering the fact have a Bachelor's Degree in History from a well known state university! Frustrated with the current state of our country, Cameron seeks to understand the foundations of the United States. To accomplish this, he travels to places like England and Holland in search of a deeper understanding of the Pilgrims and then back to New England to understand the foundations of America. He discovers what once made this nation great and something that can chart the course for a new generation of Americans...

Incredible
Monumental is incredible! Didn't really dawn on me that my generation (pre-1963) was the last to receive even part of the truth in education of the Puritan's plight. I remember at least seeing photos in our history books of people in England who fell asleep in church, in "stocks" and read of their tortures because of the Government-run church and the church as the mouthpiece for the government. Kirk does a remarkable job of telling this story. Not one single person born after 1963 should be without this. It could change a nation! Excellent, just excellent!

Great Documentary
The movie was enlightning and educational. I would highly recommend this movie for anyone who wants to know more about our founding fathers. It's a great movie for kids as well.

An Ideal Husband

Everybody has flaws
Have you ever looked at a person who seems to be perfect in every way, and thought to yourself, "No one is perfect. They must have done something wrong, sometime."

And the dark secrets of a seemingly perfect man are at the heart of "An Ideal Husband," a powerful and witty adaptation of Oscar Wilde's classic play. It's not entirely faithful to the play, but it rests on Wilde's brilliant writing and a quartet of formidable actors (although Minnie Driver's character seems... almost unnecessary).

Sir Robert Chiltern (Jeremy Northam) seems to have it all -- a flourishing career in Parliament, his beautiful and perfect wife Lady Gertrude (Cate Blanchett), and the universal respect given to a man with a perfect reputation. He has a vivacious sister (Minnie Driver) and is pals with a charming, womanizing, ironic and very bored playboy, Lord Goring (Rupert Everett).

But when a certain Mrs. Cheveley (Julianne Moore) arrives from Vienna, things take a sudden turn...

RUN, DON'T WALK, FOR THE VHS/DVD OF THIS FILM!...
One may wish to watch this movie many times, for there are witticisms galore, so much so that one can hardly keep up with them. While laughing at one, another takes place, and so on. The dialogue is glittering.

This is the greatest production of an Oscar Wilde play I have ever seen, and leaves me on pins and needles waiting for the release later this year of The Importance of Being Earnest because it also stars an actor who seems born to perform in Wilde's plays/movies: Rupert Everett.

The performances: wonderful all. Rupert Everett's work nears the genius level. Jeremy Northam as a not-so-perfect parliamentarian is great. John Wood as his father stands out. And there are the ever-so-essential ladies: Cate Blanchett as Northam's wife (would you believe she is Australian?), who believes she has a perfect husband. Julianne Moore as one of the most charmingly wicked women ever to grace the screen (would you believe she is from North Carolina?), and the very strong presence of Minnie...

Witty Dialogue, Great Acting Ensemble
If you're as tired as I am with the Action/Special effects explosion in Hollywood, An Ideal Husband will prove to boost your low opinion of the film industry. Beautifully cast, written, and directed, it's no wonder why it's been nominated for two Golden Globe Awards. The first of course, going to the actor, Rupert Everett. He delivers his lines with such an aire and grace of an English gentleman and takes such care to wrap each word in a delightful sarcastic tone-- which fits his character perfectly. Although he is, in some ways, considered a nasty man of arrogance, Everett's charm shines through and draws the viewer into his oh so romantic embrace. The rest of the cast is equally entertaining--mostly because they mesh so well together. The period costumes and cinematography are also important to note. The movement from scene to scene, the juxtaposition of the placement of the characters in the scenes are particularly amusing to watch. Enough is enough already. If...

Face to Face

Story about Conflict
This was a well-produced story of conflicts and cross conflicts, all facilitated in a room in one setting. Well done production.

Best Movie in a Year!
There are no good guys in this movie. Every last person had a frailty. It took the luxury of time to bring out the character, good and bad from each person. The acting was invariably superb. The directing was taut and dead on.
I stayed involved for every minute.

This Could Easily Have Been One of the Most Boring Movies Ever Made, But Brilliant Acting Makes You Glad You Watched It!
Luke Ford heads up a group of brilliant acting performances, by pretty much unknown actors that make what you'd expect to be a pretty boring movie, into one you really get into and don't want to end and when it is finished, wishing there was some bonus content on the DVD just because you don't want the experience to be over. Unfortunately there are no extras on this DVD, except for a trailer for the movie. I'm glad I'd never seen the trailer before watching the movie, as it does give away a lot of the plot revelations. This is a movie whose viewing actually is benefited by the fact you've never heard of it, so therefore don't know a thing about it. Therefore I'll try and write review without giving away much, but I'll tell you how it starts so you can make a decision to watch it or not.

Basically we watch a young man sitting in an old ute take another swig from a bottle which obviously isn't his first as he watches a Jag drive by. As the Jag pulls into its owners...

Kuffs [HD]

Sadly Overlooked Action Adventure Comedy
Christian Slater's character reminds me of a young Jack Nicholson, who replaces his brother on the Police Force after he is murdered. I was surprised that he didn't become as popular as Tom Cruise after this film was released in 1992, but he had a few personal issues during the 90s that stalled his career. I think he's a better actor than most people realize, with much more talent than making below average movies like "Broken Arrow".

Underrated by Critics
Critics who were just trying to kill Slater's career as they do with many actors, actresses and directors rated this a horrible movie. But this movie is so hilarious. The drugged coffee? "I like my coffee cold." The chief's car. The part when Slater answered his front door with a gun pointed at whoever was standing behind and that guy who threw his arms up and fainted! "Why are we doing all this running? Aren't we all going to be in cars?!" And Milla is the definition of sexy.

What Great Movie Kuffs.
I forgot how funny this movie is kinda of a ferris bueller/fletch comedy thriller keep you on the edge of your seat while laughing too what a great movie. supporting cast is wonderful in this film you'll just love it.

It's PG-13 For Lauguage , Action Violence.

Not worth watching.
This DVD was advertized as "Digitally Remasterd" etc. Truth is I think this DVD is a third rate copy of a copy. Picture was of extreamly poor quality same goes for the sound. Recomend that the vendor of this DVD take it off the market as it only hurts their image. It is not worth the postage to send back as an "item not as described". This DVD is a throwaway and that is what I will do with it. Will I buy anything else from this vendor? No.

Good movie
I love this movie, the story is great and you won't go wrong if you buy this movie,I would recommend it family and friends.

Photographing Fairies

Beautiful in every way
In 1997 there were two movies made about English children who take pictures of fairies. One, Fairy Tale: A True Story, was released to wide audiences and charmed many as an intelligent kid's flick. This story was based on fact, hence the subtitle. The other, Photographing Fairies, was only selectively released on video here in the States, aimed at an adult audience. It deals with a fictional reimagining of the Cottingley fairy incident portrayed in Fairy Tale, as seen through the cynical eyes of a photographer bent on proving the girls false. Charles Castle, spiritually wounded by the death of his bride, tries to disprove the pictures using logic and a camera, but soon finds that there is more to the story than he had bargained on.

Although I was charmed by Fairy Tale, Photographing Fairies is the movie that holds a special place in my heart. I have watched it more times than I can count, and still manage to be surprised and touched by this haunting film. This is everything...

If You Only Believe
'Death is merely a change of state. The soul is a fresh expression of the self. The dead are not dust. They really are only a footfall away.'

It is the ensuing years after World War I, and Charles Castle (Toby Stephens) is eking out a living as a photographer in London after having spent time in the trenches of Europe, photographing dead soldiers for posterity. Before the war, in 1912, he was married in Switzerland, but due to a mountain climbing tragedy, became a widower before the honeymoon was over. He has become a mere shell of a man, going through the motions of everyday life, and unceasing in his wait for the day that he himself will cease to exist. His function in this life has been to debunk the world of the supernatural and all who claim to make contact with the spirit world.

At one such function, sponsored by the Theosophical Society, he lays waste to a set of photographs purporting to show two young girls with fairies dancing around them. A woman...

Crisis Of Faith In Fairyland ~ Guarding The Border Between This World And The Next
Note: If you live in the America's you must have a multi-region DVD player to watch this one.

Introduction: `Photographing Fairies' is an obscure British film from '98 that to my knowledge was never released to American theaters. It was available in limited quantities on VHS but has yet to appear on a REGION 1 DVD.

This probably shouldn't be too surprising when you look at the subject matter of the film. Unlike the Emerald Isles who have an ancient and ongoing oral and written tradition concerning the "wee folk", American audiences are vastly untutored in the topic of the intangible realm of the "Secret Commonweath" and its myriad of inhabitants. Tales of fairies, elves, undines and fauns are not something that would normally dwell in the psyche of U. S. natives. For this reason more than any other 'Photographing Fairies' remains all but unknown on this side of the Atlantic Ocean. This magical realm of existence is something unfortunately lacking in this...

Vatel [HD]

A vivid rendering of royal extravagance
It's 1671, and the King of France, Louis XIV, is looking for a general to carry war to the insufferably insolent Dutch. One of his nobles, the Prince de Condé, wants the job, thinking such royal favor will relieve his chronic impoverishment. The Prince's strategy to entice the sovereign's attention is ... well, to throw a lavish party, of course. VATEL is Condé's master of the kitchen and entertainment planner for the big event, for which the King, his Queen, and a large coterie of sycophants will descend upon the Prince's country estate to be lavishly fed, housed, and amused for several days. The expense and bother of it all will be staggering.

Gérard Depardieu, Julian Sands and Julian Glover play the roles of VATEL, Louis XIV and Condé respectively. Additionally, Uma Thurman plays Anne de Montausier, the King's favorite "lady-in-waiting". ("Waiting for what?" would be an obtuse question.) And, Tim Roth has the role of the creepy Marquis de Lauzan, one...

Vatel = "Why critics are useless"
See Vatel. See it for the truly exceptional art direction. See it for the performances of Depardieu and Roth. See it because Thurman gives what may be her best performance yet. See it to take a trip back to the Golden Age of France, without Musketeers. See it simply because of the movie magic of watching some of the most beautiful food known being created. However, this is not some Martha Stewart field trip to the seventeenth century .

For all the remarkable spectacle Vatel presents, it is really a wonderful character study, layered over a profound fable of the stresses and dangers of living in a society obsessed with material excess and impossibly complex social codes. Sound familiar? Louis XIV carefully kept an entire social class deliberately distracted by the pursuit of pleasure and prestige in order to politically neutralize them. Considering that we are in the throes of a similar, though far more widespread social regression, the points of view explored in Vatel are...

Simply Divine
This film is such a visual masterpiece! It's absolutely stunning from beginning to end. The set design is by far the most accurate historically that I have ever seen (and believe me, I have seen just about every 17th century period piece there is). The actors performances are overall, perfection. Gerard Depardieu does a magnificent job as playing the title role Vatel, who is a party planner extrodinare! The pretense is an all important visit from Louis XIV (played beautifully by Julian Sands) to Vatel's master's estate. Everything must be perfect so that the Sun King may grant Vatel's master a commanding generals position in an impending war with the Dutch and thus, bestowing riches upon him. Intrigue, lust and pure love is what transpires over the three days that Louis spends at the estate. Uma Thurman gives a great performance as a courtesan who catches most everyone's eye, including that of Vatel however, the King catches her first which complicates matters. Tim Roth gives a fine...

The Adventures of Mark Twain

Wonderful Animation that should have broad appeal
Although The Adventures of Mark Twain is a Claymation extravaganza, it shouldn't be thought of as just kids' fare--in fact, much of the subject matter is not only intelligent on an adult level but also a bit dark. The premise is that three youngsters--Tom, Huck and Becky from The Adventures of Tom Sawyer--stow away on a fantastic lighter-than-air craft piloted by Mark Twain, who was born during a year when Halley's Comet visited our atmosphere and is trying to join up with it during one of its return visits. As he puts it, the Lord noted that those two freaks of nature came in together, and they should go out together. Along the way, the kids start to question the outcome of the trip and plot to hijack the ship. They also encounter several of Twain's short stories that are dramatized as subplots, a couple of which end up revealing crucial aspects of Twain's own character. The Clamation effects are a knockout, highly imaginative, and the plot has more substance than you might think on...

SOOO Awesome!!!
I can hardly believe that I've finally found this on DVD! I could not be more pleased. I've looked and looked over the years to no avail and suddenly PRESTO! BANGO! There it is. I used to watch this with my boys when they were very young. They did not understand the symbolism or humor then but were attracted by the incredible claymation. It's neat to see them watch it again years later and sudenly the lights go on and there is something deeper to appreciate.

I can't/won't speak to the narrow minds that kept Huckleberry Finn off so many library shelves for such a long time but we all understand that Mark Twain did not necessarily write for an audience of children. This genius of an American writer gave us things to think about and consider...uncomfortable issues for the time and gauging from some of the more emotional responses/reviews, still difficult for a few today but I challenge that truly GREAT art does that.

If you are a fan of Mark Twain and don't mind...

Dark and Strange
Claymation animator Will Vinton's first -- and to date, only -- full-length feature is based on Mark Twain's lesser-known writings, including "Tom Sawyer Abroad" and "The Mysterious Stranger." (It also owes a substantial debt to Justin Kaplan's critical biography "Mr. Clemons and Mark Twain.") The storyline is episodic and incoherent, but individual scenes -- especially the "Mysterious Stranger" sequence -- are as good as animation gets.

Vinton's "Adventures of Mark Twain" is probably too strange for most audiences, and its nightmarish imagery is not suitable for young children. Twain buffs, however, will be delighted.

Detroit 9000

IN A WORD..........SOLID!
This is classic Blacksploitation! I am such a huge fan of the genre, that when I heard a soundbite from Detroit 9000 on the Jackie Brown soundtrack, I knew that I had to see the movie. And, even better, it had Quentin Tarantino's stamp of approval. More than enough for me!

A gritty, tell it like it is white cop is assigned to find the men who robbed the fundraiser for the first black man to run for Govenor of the state of Michigan. When he realizes that he can't do it alone, he reluctantly agrees to let a young black cop, who happens to be an up-and-comer, help him out. What follows is a mess of gun fights, funky music, and dead pimps. All culminating in probably one of the biggest shootouts/chase scenes in film history! My jaw was dropped and my eyes were open in amazement as Detroit cops and the robbers chased each other all over town whilst expending thousands of rounds of ammo. The ending came as quite a surprise, and nothing that I had seen coming. This film is a...

A Must-See for Motown
This is the only non-documentary film that I know of to capture anything of the life in Detroit experience. It is a must-see film for anyone who's spent any serious time in Motown. There are classic Detroit scenes such the drive up the Cobo Hall ramp, a dialogue scene in the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame inside Cobo, the old Top Hat Coney off Grand Circus Park, a functioning Book-Cadillac Hotel, a skyline before the RenCen, and even a B.C./Marathon sticker and Detroit Tigers "Bill Freehan in action" calendar! This film has early-70s Detroit written all over it. Yet, this film also goes beyond its local setting as well. Its no wonder Tarantino has a special regard for this film. It shows the racial hypocrisy of institutions and the establishment. There is racial opportunism and strife among the politicians and police chiefs. So it is no mistake that the criminals in this film are the only ones racially mixed working in cohesion. The final chase scene is not actually...

BRILLIANT
This movie would have never caught my eye if it wasn't for Tarantino. I'm a huge fan of Tarantino, but I can't honestly see what Tarantino did to make it better, except put his name on it to get people to buy this classic film. The pure acting of Scatman Crothers and Alex Rocco make this movie flow. It has a wonderful plot and dealt with racial and other real issues. I think it wasn't that big of a hit when it was first released because people just didn't want to see films like that then. Today on the other hand, as Tarantino realized, people love films such as Detroit 9000. Absolutely brilliant!

Held Up

Awesome,Funny Movie
In this movie Jamie Fox or "Michael Dawson" is on vacation with fiancee Rae or "Nia Long" in the middle of nowhere.Until Rae dumps him then, a teenager takes his car and is caught up in a hostage situation it's just a hilarious situation after another!!

funny for the first ride
if you wanna watch this over and over again I , dont...its better if you watch it once. this is about Foxx and his girlfriend leaves him and then he ends up being Held Up by some robbers who are so stupid. the cops come, or should I say uneducated cops come to teh scene. my favorite bit is where Foxx thinks he is grazed with a bullet and it turns out its a dorito chip(the part where the microwave explodes). Jake Busey and Michael Shamus Wiles(military man) add some spark as well.

Side splitting!
I loved this movie. It was funny and loaded with some of the most interesting characters I've seen in a long time. Jamie Foxx is charming and charasmatic. And the rest of the cast are all very talented actors, especially Barry Corbin, who plays the sheriff of the town Jamie gets stuck in. This movie was cleaver and sweet all at the same time. A definate must see for the whole family.

V/H/S [HD]

POV horror anthology
V/H/S is kind of like "Creepshow" meets "The Blair Witch Project" and IMHO it works out pretty well. Our main story (and set up from which to tell the rest of the stories) centers around four no-good wannabe punks. They spend their days committing juvenille crimes like vandalizing private property and terrorizing women. We feel little sympathy for these guys as they look to be at least in their late 20s but are committing petty crimes one would expect teens to commit. Anyway, they are hired by some mysterious porn broker to break into a house where an old man lives and steal a certain VHS tape. What is on the tape? They don't know, but sure as heck going to make copies of it so they can later profit even more from this theft. They find at least a dozen tapes, so in order to find the one they're looking for they begin playing them all. One by one, each tape tells a POV story and are seemingly unrelated. It left me wondering where the old guy gets these tapes.

The first tape...

Better than I expected.
Seeing this on both Netflix and Amazon, and having a name I was unfamiliar with, I figured it would be just another low budget horror flick, but I was wrong. I was expecting to turn the movie off within 10 minutes, but ended up watching it all while wanting more when it ended. Sure... there are a few small things I would have done to change it, particularly at the end - something happens that I've seen in the movie Grave Encounters, it was something cheesy, in my opinion. But for the most part, this is really interesting and freaky. It is definitely worth AT LEAST a one time watch.

Video Record...
A group of vandals / thieves / videographers break into a house in order to steal a specific VHS tape. Once inside, they find the place empty, except for one room. In this room is a stack of televisions, a VCR, and an old man in a chair. This forms the wrap-around story for the events on a tape already in the VCR. VIDEO ONE has a trio of drunken pervs, out to secretly record their sexual exploits. The tables are turned on them, and they become human prey. VIDEO TWO is about a young couple on vacation. Their trip soon becomes a nightmare when someone enters their room while they sleep. On VIDEO THREE, a group of four hikers are out for a serene walk through the woods. Unfortunately, someone / something is out to ruin their little nature walk. VIDEO FOUR is a gruesome, supernatural story told over several days, via internet video. It's a cautionary tale that is best summed up in the words, "Trust no one". VIDEO FIVE concerns four guys and a Halloween party. Things fly out of...

Bob the Builder: Teamwork Time

Go Teamwork!
My boys love Bob the Builder and this DVD couldn't have come at a better time for them. My boys are only 17 months apart and they fight like cats and dogs. This DVD features Bob and his friends working together to solve the problem and save the day! It was great for me to points point to my boys how friends help one another and brothers should too! There are five episodes on this DVD perfect for watching one episode at a time or having an hour long Bob marathon!

Great Lessons in Teamwork
By the title alone I knew that I would love this DVD! My kids already love Bob the Builder and I love that it is such a uplifting show with great messages for my kids. Hit Entertainment's shows are definitely of a higher caliber than others with regard to integrity and emphasis on the positive.

Bob and his friends are encouraging and supportive of each other when things don't always go as planned. Not everyone is equally good at things and as adults we know that's what makes us unique individuals. As kids, it can really hurt their feelings of self worth and confidence. Dizzy has some issues in their department and it really created some thought provoking questions from my son and gave me the opportunity to discuss this subject with him.

I think that the moral lessons might still be over my three year olds head a bit but I like filling her head with things that are positive, even if she doesn't quite know what they mean yet. So much of toddler's behavior is...

The Christmas Orange

Received Bogus Screening Copy of DVD
I ordered a USED, LIKE NEW, DVD of The Christmas Orange on 1-30-11. When my order was shipped (free shipping), the DVD was suddenly not available. Amazon told me that it would ship the DVD as soon as it was available. I recently saw that the USED DVD was available, and Amazon agreed to ship it free. When I received the DVD on 7-7-11, the outer case looked just like the one advertised on Amazon; however, the DVD has a statement on it that reads: "SCREENING COPY. NOT FOR SALE OR RENTAL. THIS FEATURE LENGTH SCREENER IS FOR SALES AID USE ONLY AND ABSOLUTELY NOT FOR RENTAL, SALE, OR PUBLIC DEMONSTRATION." The DVD also has the number of 16322-SC. The words, "Screening Copy" appear on the screen a few times during the movie. Prior to this DVD, I have never seen a screening copy. Amazon must not check this stuff before sending it to customers. When a DVD is USED, Amazon can certainly check it since the case is not sealed. The movie is cute, so I gave it a rating of three stars...

Wonderful Christmas DVD
This is a great Christmas movie that I think every child and adult today will enjoy, especially in a time when so many people forget the real meaning of Christmas.

absolutely perfect and wonderful
I saw this movie with my adult daughter when she was a child yes its a cartoon and it doesn't have the glitz glamour or advertising holiday shows like rudolph or frosty have but it has somnething alil more special. It actually shows a child's questions being answered, abilities to reason even at a very young or old age and responsiblity. If a child is to take everyone from family, friends, other people in professions around him for granted even poor ole santa claus it shows what will happen not a lump of coal but a special lesson in life. I think if you believe in xmas/christmas or even giving to others this is the perfect movie for yourself and others 8 seconds old to 888 years old. It has cute characters, funny jokes, a few lessons to learn and best of all everyone will see someone in it that reminds them of someone in their own lives in this movie. anyone who I know has ever seen it loves it as much as the book it was named after. One of the best movies and books of all time I...

Richard's Wedding

I love this writer, director, producer, editor
This movie is hilarious. Well-written, but low-budget - this is probably the finest movie Onur Tukel has ever made. I still have a soft-spot in my heart for House of Pancakes, and Ding-a-Ling LESS, but this movie seems to combine the best aspects of both of those films. I can see how Onur has been growing, and his films continue to shine.

Probably one of the best under-appreciated film makers of our generation.

Low Budget But Not Low Talent
This is the kind of movie I seek out. The characters are articulate, the relationships are interesting, and the situations ludicrous. The film has the feel of an extended sketch at first, but by the end I wanted more. Now I know to keep on the lookout for more of the director's work.

Grace of My Heart [HD]

Why do I like this so much?
First off, I wouldn't normally consider myself a fan of life-affirming womens' stories. I'm supposed to be a spiky intellectual male-type-person. I don't like this kind of music; I prefer loud guitars, anything from the Second Viennese School, atonal improvisation and hip-hop. This film should by rights make me gag.

And yet, it's so well-written and so beautifully acted that it taps in me some suppressed vein of shameless emotionalism. Ileanna Douglas is brilliant as the geeky songwriter who matures into a sadder and wiser Earth Mother, following various more or less catastrophic relationships with oppressive men. John Turturro is the producer with a very strange beard who keeps a sort-of-brotherly eye out for her. Bridget Fonda has a lovely cameo as the teen idol with the guilty secret. Even Patsy Kensit is good, for crying out loud.

There's a scene near the end where Turturro confronts Douglas that gets me as near to crying as I ever get about something...

Grace Of My Heart
Though this film will probably not have much appeal to anyone under 40, it is a clever and entertaining look at the most exciting and creative period in pop music history. Many 'stars' of this era are parodied here, and those familiar with the music of the 60's will immediately recognize the characters portrayed. The original music is beautiful, and recorded with incredible authenticty. John Turturro is marvelous as the New York hot-shot music publisher, carefully nurturing his latest discovery, a female songwriter (played by Illeana Douglas) who turns out hit after hit and makes a fortune for herself and the publishing company, but wants only to make her own record as a singer. "Denise" finally gets to do just that, but only after losing two husbands and for a short while, her own mind. This is one of just a few films that I watch at least 3 times a year.

This Movie Pulls at My Heart!
My twenty something daughter & I both love this movie. It was the first time I had seen Illeana Douglas & John Turturro in a movie, & I loved them both. I've found since then that John Turturro is a chameleon, changing physically with each character. I'll never forget Illeana D. in this role--like one of your reviewers said, it's hard to believe she wasn't singing the songs. I loved the music of all the groups in this movie--wish all of the songs were included on the music cd. The girl who sings "God Give Me Strength" was fantastic! As were all singers in this movie. Matt Dillon, Eric Stoltz, & Bruce Davison were excellent, as always. Christina Pickles & Bridget Fonda were great in their small parts, also as usual. I was disappointed that Leonard Maltin gave this movie only 2 1/2 stars, but he does that for a lot of movies that I like. I watched this movie at late night on HBO or some cable channel about two years ago, & became addicted to...

Heaven [HD]

Transcendent in every sense
What is heaven? More importantly, how do we, as imperfect people, transcend our daily limitations and transgressions to reach heaven - be it here on Earth or elsewhere? The master Polish filmmaker Krzysztof Kieslowski, who wrote the screenplay for "Heaven" shortly before his death in 1996, uses the film's story and dialogue as a final opportunity to expand the core humanist philosophy that underlies nearly all of his films ("Decalogue", "Trois Couleurs", "Double Life of Veronique".)

Philippa, played by Cate Blanchett, is a widowed English teacher living in Turin. Disillusioned from the mounting death toll that drug abuse has claimed on several of her young students and her recently deceased husband, Phillippa executes a desperate plan to kill Turin's drug kingpin, Vendice, by deposting a bomb in his office trashbin. When the bomb is unknowingly intercepted by a cleaning woman on her daily rounds and taken to an elevator transporting a father and his two daughters, Philippa's...

A beautiful, thought-provoking film
This is one of the most beautiful films I have seen in a long time. The director knows how to create magic moments, and the slow tempo of the film allows the viewer to reflect upon not only the intrigue, but also the visual pictures. If you like films where something happens all the time, this is not a film for you. Instead, the film is almost floating forward in a way that makes you think about not so much what happens, but the deeper issues that are embedded in the film.

Human beings are not good or bad, and there is no such thing as a black and white world. Instead, the nuances matter. Being human is to make mistakes, sometimes. The director does not spell out any answers to the questions that the film poses, rather, provides one perspective on how they could be viewed, but is not trying to convince the viewer that this is THE truth.

The Triumph Of Substance Over Style
In his first English language film, "Heaven", German director Tom Tykwer abandons his earlier displays visual pyrotechnics, fast cut editing, and adrenaline laced pacing, to present us with heart felt meditation on the nature of unconditional love. This may disappoint some fans of his brilliant trilogy of films ("Night Sleepers", "Run Lola Run" and "Princess and the Warrior") which explored the themes of syncronicity, metaphysics and causality. It is the blissful performance of the cameleon-like actress Cate Blanchett that allows Tykwer the space to breathe and expand his artistic vision.

"Heaven" begins as a thriller involving a woman obsessed with avenging the death of her husband, but quickly shifts gears and becomes an exploration of love between doomed outsiders, another favorite Tykwer theme. Tykwer shot the film in Italy and it is technically a bi-lingual film, because much of the dialogue is in Italian. Giovanni Ribisi, whose career has alternated between lackluster and...

Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry

A Social-Networking Trickster
What a fascinating story! Ai Weiwei is the Chinese Artist/Dissident who boycotted the 2008 Chinese Olympics as a protest against the government's treatment of the people displaced by the Bird's-Nest Stadium in Beijing (he had been an artist/consultant for the project). After people's homes were condemned and demolished, they were hustled out of town for the duration of the Olympics because they weren't acceptable photo ops for visitors.

As he mastered the power of social network tools (he LOVES the Internet!), the government shut down his blog but he switched to Twitter and went to the site of the horrific Sichuan earthquake, where almost 5,000 school children died in shoddily built schools. Weiwei and his acolytes were on the spot, video cameras and cell phones in constant use. They gathered every name (most victims were an only child) and not only posted them on the wall in his studio, he coordinated an amazing project where people from everywhere contacted his Twitter...

The Breadth of Art: Ai Wei Wei's Never Sorry
The Ai Wei Wei movie, Never Sorry, is eyeopening for those who care about Art. After viewing it, I knew I would be thinking about it for a long time. Ai Wei Wei is a man of enormous energy and charisma and charm mixed with real intelligence, whose art is more than pictures or color or shape, but includes action and response and challenge. And, a call to action. To watch him respond to the mindless bureaucratic enforcement of a police state is dazzling and comic and moving. The intelligence of his response is eye-opening and just amazing. And, the Sunflower Seeds exhibit at the Tate were revealed to be an emotionally moving work of art.
I long to find a dvd, which I assume must vecome available because I want everyone I know to see it. Never Sorry captured me. Not only is AWW a rare individual, he raises issues of cultural history, activism, politics, and really, the breadth of Art. I was struck by thinking, despite his family history, Chinese politics and our reaction...

Good Access, but the Final Product Is Unfocused and Not Especially Informative.
"Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry" explores the recent life and politics of Chinese artist Ai Weiwei, who came to international fame in 2008 when he repudiated the Olympic Games in Beijing, even though he had contributed to the architectural design of its "Bird's Nest" stadium. Filmmaker Alison Klayman focuses on the years since then, as this is when Ai entered the public consciousness, though she does explore the artist's background in interviews with his brother and mother and a report on the time he spent in New York in the 1980s. Ai's recent political causes are interwoven with explorations of his art and a personal portrait. Klayman had very good access to Ai Weiwei, and he generally seems forthcoming, but the film's lack of focus and unwillingness to ask intelligent questions make it more of a fan documentary than an informative one.

Ai Weiwei came to the attention of Chinese as a political figure not long before he erupted onto the international scene as a "dissident artist",...

Brilliant, Funny, Poignant: Definitely not a John Woo Movie
A brilliant, highly stylistic deconstruction of the film noir genre. Those who are familiar with the yakuza movies, too, will appreciate just how much of a radical departure this is from the conventions of the genre. All the action takes place in the most incongruous places, the yakuza life is portrayed (highly realistically but hilariously) as long stretches of interminable boredom disrupted by totally uncontrollable bursts of violence, characters often stare directly into the camera completely ignoring the matching eyelines (a la Ozu Yasujiro). John Woo aficionados will be disappointed; don

Hoax for the Holidays [HD]

H-o-a-x For The Holidays
This is a CANADIAN film--which you'd not notice except for the foreign currency.
This film contains O-N-E objectionable word that prompted the label on the DVD box:
"WARNING: THIS FILM CONTAINS COURSE LANGUAGE"
It is closed captioned, and subtitled in Spanish.

Casey (Martha MacIsaac) is a small, pretty, dark haired, dark-eyed girl that looks
to be about 17. She might still be in highschool. She works at the local doughnut
shop, and in a moment of defiance throws a cup of coffee on a white brick wall, rubs
the mess around a bit, and there it is: the face of Jesus-- some people say it looks
like Willie Nelson.
Casey's family is Catholic. She's an atheist, most-likely bedcause her older sister
is comatose; it isn't explained-- she just IS.
I won't go into deep detail for personal reasons, but I found the movie to be acceptable
fare-- at least to me. It is more of a FORGIVENESS and FAITH film than a Christmas one.

hoax for the holidays
was not the movie i thought it was, but i ended up enjoying it. it has a good christmas message about knowing yourself.

Not the usual Christmas fare, but worth checking out
When it came out in 2010, this film's original title was "Faith, Fraud & Minimum Wage"-- adapted by Josh MacDonald from his stage play "Halo". Released on DVD in 2011, its title was changed to "Hoax for the Holidays", presumably so it could be marketed as a Christmas film. In a way, it is one, as it does take place during that season. However, it's not at all like "It's A Wonderful Life", although it features a film-fan priest who proposes screening that particular movie to cheer up the economically-depressed town. Russ Hunt, who reviewed the original 2003 theatre production, noted that this is "a Christmas show that might actually struggle through the fog of saccharine around the holiday and actually generate a bit of clarity, about miracles, and death, and loneliness". And I agree with his assessment, since it gets at some pretty deep issues about faith, betrayal, and what friendship and community really mean. So if you don't mind your Christmas stories on the dark and bittersweet...

The Star of this Movie Blazes on the Screen
This movie is a quiet tale of burning passion and smoldering longing. The star of this movie is just on fire! His dramatic flare does a great job of communicating the all consuming conflagation of his character's glowing existence. Not only does this flick's star set the screen ablaze with his talent, but he is also smokin' hot.

I know I may get some flames for this review, but if you don't get this on your Kindle Fire, you're really missing out.

THE BEST & MOST REALISTIC FIREPLACE DVD
Fast shipping for an excellent quality dvd that arrived
in great shape. The Fireplace for your Home - Classic Edition
looks and sounds like a real fireplace AND plays continously if
you choose, so you can have the fireplace playing for as long as you like, without having to fuss with your dvd player. This dvd is of a better quality than the other brand of fireplace dvd which I purchased. This one's a really good buy & a pleasure to use.

It keeps me warm and cozy.
I bought one of these dvds a few weeks back to test it before recommending it to my friends and family. I can honestly say that I am very pleased with the Fireplace DVD, so much so I am buying a few more to give away as gifts.

It's always nice to come upon an item that pleases you at first glance, and then continues to please. You simply put the DVD into your player, and you have a beautiful fire going in any room in your house. The quality of the picture is very good. You get a crisp flame and you can also see some logs, which just makes it look even more realistic. It's perfect if you house is not equipped with a fireplace, but you would like to set a romantic mood for those cold nights with your sweetheart. I can not rave about this enough, but I think my point is clear.

This is perfect for the holiday season, Christmas, or any yule festival, and I HIGHLY recommend it for you and your loved ones!

Yelling to the Sky

A Hard-Hitting Coming-Of-Age Story That Leaves Some Of Its Most Compelling Characters Relatively Unexplored
There is a rawness to the film "Yelling To The Sky" that is likely to evoke strong reactions with most viewers. At times humorous, at times brutal, this coming-of-age story from writer/director Victoria Mahoney has a palpable anger underneath its surface that really sets it apart from many comparable films. While I don't know enough about Mahoney to label this autobiographical in nature, there is a certain intimacy and truthfulness that make it feel like a cathartic self-examination of a life lived. While I appreciated this spirit, however, the overall experience ended up having less impact for me than individual components of the film. For my taste, some of the characterizations lacked definition. A drama about race, abuse, violence, and family dysfunction, "Yelling To The Sky" can be unrepentantly bleak. And as the central character spiraled out of control, I found myself as an outsider looking in on (and sometimes not believing) the harrowing circumstances before her...

Bleach the Movie: Hell Verse

A pleasant journey into Hell
I typically don't like non-canon Bleach anime - namely the movies and arcs that don't follow the manga. This, though, was rather entertaining. As the fourth Bleach film, it certainly is a step up from Diamond Dust Rebellion and is as good if not better than Fade to Black (though I am still a fan of Memories of Nobody). The story is interesting, there is a good dose of what every Bleach movie should have - fluidly illustrated fight scenes - and not a lot of wasted time of fuzzy, emotional appeals (the downfall of Diamond Dust Rebellion). And there is the added perk of finding out just what the world beyond that terrifying gate is actually like - and believe me it isn't a cheerful place. The story also has a few twist that keep things entertaining. Bleach is at its best when showcasing all its cool abilities and fights and this movie puts them on display. Very entertaining, especially for Bleach fans.

A few drawbacks: 1. there is a woeful lack of other characters in this one...

Go to Hell!!!
If you watch or read bleach you know that Ichigo and his friends are always trying to rescue somebody. Well this time its Yuzu, Ichigo's little sister, and he has to go to hell to save her! I've always wondered if there was a heaven or hell in the bleach universe since apparently one goes to the soul society when he or she dies, but here we learn that hell is a place where the worst sinners go and there are a group of sinners who want to break free from hells grasp and are basically bribing Ichigo to break the very gates of hell in exchange for his sister's soul. I really enjoyed this movie, I would say it may be my favorite bleach movie so far. The animation is awesome, and I just think the concept is just perfect for a bleach side story. The bluray had amazing picture and sound, but featured very little special features. Just a small art gallery and a couple trailers.
Overall, awesome. You've been to the soul society. You've been to hueco mundo. Welcome to hell.

Good, But The Weakest Bleach Movie
A group of men escape Hell briefly. In that time, they attempt to kidnap Ichigo's sisters. Chad is able to save Karin, but Yuzu is taken back to Hell when the kidnapper's are pulled back in by their chains. Chad is seriously injured while saving Karin, so Ichigo, Renji, Rukia, and Uryuu go to Hell to save her. The kidnappers are stuck in Hell because of the chains that bind them. They witnessed Ichigo's hollow transformation and they believe that he has the power to break those chains. They will return Yuzu if he cooperates. The battle in Hell is intense and the danger of never being able to leave is high. Especially for a weaker girl like Yuzu.

This is a good movie, but it's my least favorite Bleach movie. The other 3 movies had a pretty good bad guy. The 1st movie had a great character, Senna. You can really get into some of the enemies in the Bleach movies. This one is different. The bad guys are really stupid and have ridiculous looking bodies. The main bad guy is ok,...

Elf-Man

Great Christmas Movie for the whole Family!!!
I got a chance to watch Elf-Man and have to tell you how wonderful this movie is!!! Its visually amazing and the Acting was so enjoyable with a cast of characters that light up the screen! You will laugh out loud with the incredible story and hilarious hijinks that ensue. And within all the mayhem, I especially enjoyed Mirelly Taylor's roll as Amy. She brings such a charmingly-funny and romantic-beauty to the role, that sucks you in and grounds the movie to pull everything together.

It is everything you'd want in a Christmas movie, with all the bells and whistles, laughs and jingles, that only the holiday season can bring. I recommend this movie to everyone for any occasion. Its a movie that just, down right makes you want to smile!!!

Christmas surprise
This was really an all-around pleasant surprise. The Elf-Man himself is of course the eye candy we came to see and deserves every accolade we can offer him -- he's wry, spry, and wise. The rest of the cast is also terrific, the kids are particular stand-outs, but everyone is solid. And so is the overall production itself right down to the clever special effects. This really is the perfect Christmas sock stuffer. A real treat:)

Heartwarming, Funny, Great Kid's Christmas Movie!
Finally, a good old fashioned kid's Christmas movie that's actually appropriate for the whole family! I went to the premier of this film in Frederick, Maryland where it was filmed and the kids - and adults in the packed theatre LOVED it! It's heart warming. It's funny. It's silly. It's romantic. It's exciting, it's clean and it's VERY well done! Everyone in the cast was perfect for their role. Even the bad guys were loveable! I look forward to watching this every Christmas season and I predict it will soon be a Christmas classic for many!

Healed by Grace

Great content and message for families!
Although we enjoyed this movie, the acting is marginal and the dialogue sometimes borders cheesy. Our family struggles to have uplifting movies for our children so we were happy with the themes and message. Overall, we felt this was a good experience considering the writing , directing and music were done by this young couple with limited budget.

Family Film ... Not Christian
Although the movie does present elements of God, it does so as sugar or salt on a platter. It is mostly a film about encouragement, much of which is done through people and a horse (not much by God) throughout this film.

Good to watch, but not to be used as a tool to minister to others. There are other and better films for that purpose.

Good story line but not much depth
I enjoyed the story--don't get me wrong--but the acting was just OK. I like how horse therapy was worked into the story line.

The Hoax (2006) [HD]

The 70's off to a rollicking start.
A struggling writer discovers that Hughes cannot appear in court to dispute a hoax because the reclusive billionaire is in a nasty dispute with TWA shareholders. So the hoax is born. Soon though, events turn raucous when the billionaire fails to appear to allegedly vouch for the autobiography, and then another hoaxed autobiography appears in print ahead of Irving's release. The mystery of who is hoaxing who surfaces when a box of scandalous files anonymously appears at the writer's home. The frenzied sensation draws the attention of darker forces in America. Apparently, someone has to know what would be included about Hughes and Nixon's brother, Donald, who had received unrepaid loans from Hughes in the 1960 campaign, and may have received more loans in 1972. Then suddenly the hoax unravels. Within within months, Nixon is re-elected, the Hughes-TWA dispute resolves, and Americans begin to learn of a third-rate burglarly called Watergate. The Hoax is an interesting chapter in...

Ramifications of a Hoax
Clifford Irving (Fake, Trial, Final Argument, The Spring) became a sort of national hero when he contrived to publish 'The Autobiography of Howard Hughes', a 400 page phony but well researched book that, while it was never published, did cause enough of a stir among the New York publishing cognoscenti and those surrounding the then President Richard Nixon that it now is recognized as a HOAX of writing that triggered the final discovery of the Watergate Scandal and the subsequent dethroning of Nixon. Those facts alone make this sometimes rather tepid film interesting enough to sit through. Screenwriter William Wheeler has adapted Irving's book into a study of the 1970s and Lasse Hallström gives it just the right balance between soft crime and strange comedy to keep it afloat.

Clifford Irving (Richard Gere) is down on his literary luck, searching for the right kind of story that will set is publisher Andrea Tate (Hope Davis) on fire. Irving wife Edith (Marcia Gay...

Surprisingly Good
Since anyone of A Certain Age remembers how this story turns out, I was expecting more of a documentary than a thriller. But the film does a great job of pacing, and literally races towards the unraveling of Clifford Irving's web of deception.

Richard Gere is excellent, with a smarmy self-confidence that almost explains how so many supposedly intelligent people could have fallen for what would seem to be a patently obvious hoax.

EAT, SLEEP, ROW
Abi Brooks (Sarah Megan Thomas) has been trying out for the Olympics all of her adult life. At age 30, she has been selected as an alternate...again. She decides not to be the alternate and quits, returning to her upscale home in the Philadelphia suburbs. She lands a job at a private school as a rowing instructor from her ex-boyfriend Geoff (James Van Der Beek). She supposedly has trouble adjusting, but it look like she did just fine.

Abi bonds with her students and prepares them for an upcoming match when she suddenly gets a chance to be in the Olympics as a starter. She wants to leave for the Olympics, something that would be a major selling point for the school, but the movie makes her out to be a selfish individual who would rather piddle around as a once in a lifetime Olympic athlete instead of teaching rowing in high school.

Sarah Megan Thomas was all wrong for the part, lacking muscle tone and visible upper body strength. This is a movie to show your kids...

Feel Good Movie With a Great Message
Not an epic but a movie that makes you feel good and delivers a good message. Something missing from most films these days.

Good but slow
Heartwarming story but not much depth to it. The acting is alright but it doesn't really get you involved probably would never watch again. B movie

Tales From The Crypt: Bordello of Blood [HD]

Underrated brilliance
I never understood why so many people hate this movie. Even Fangoria called it 'abysmal'. But I consider it a worthy follow-up to the delicious Demon Knight. It has brilliant acting: Dennis Miller is a treat as smartass private eye. Angie Everhart is not only the hottest female vampire in years, no, she even proves that she can actually act. Corey Feldman has one of his very few good roles. But who really chews the scenery is Chris Sarandon (Fright Night), one of the most underrated actors ever: His performance as a TV preacher alone makes this movie worth watching. Only Erika Eleniak is rather miscast. And watch out for Demon Knight veteran William Sadler (another underestimated actor) as mummy. The make-up F/X are not only unbelievably gory for an R-rated movie; they're so excellent they even surprise genre buffs who thought they've seen it all. The characters are wonderfully weird, and although there's loads of black humour in it, I'm glad Bordello of Blood never turns...

Billy Zane and Dennis Miller Together
This disk collects the two Tales From the Crypt movies on one side of a single disk. For some reason the menu has the second movie listed first.

In the first movie, Billy Zane is excellent as a demon looking for a final key so that the demons can retake the universe. This is the story of his battle with the current Demon Knight, the protector of the key. Wonderfully crafted and dark.

The second movie, Bordello of Blood, is a more tongue-in-cheek T&A-fest and lacks the dark seriousness of the first. Lilith, the queen of all vampires, has been awakened. She can be controlled by a key (the one from the first movie). She has set up a bordello to lure victims to her hunger. Dennis Miller is his wise-cracking self as he portrays a down-and-out private investigator looking for a missing person.

It is nice not to have to flip the disk over or insert a new disk but there is no room for real extras (we do get the original trailers). Seeing the two films...

Devilish Double Feature
An entertaining double creature--er, that is, double feature inspired by TV's TALES FROM THE CRYPT (which was itself inspired by the identically titled, delightfully decadent EC Comics of the 1950s).

First on the bill is DEMON KNIGHT (1995). On the surface, this one's a typical tale of good-versus-evil, with a noble agent of Heaven working to protect mankind from an evil Demon who, with the help of his minions, seeks to throw a veil of darkness over the universe and oppress mankind in the process. Trite, yes, but a good script, a talented cast (including Billy Zane as the wonderfully smarmy Demon), and high production values raise this one a notch or two above the average morality play. The weakest element of the film is the Crypt-Keeper wraparound, which has too much of the TV show's cheesy feel (though it does feature an uncredited cameo by John Larroquette, whom hardcore genre fans know to be the opening narrator for 1974's original TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE). The...
